But when they get the dog home, they discover that he has multiple illnesses and that he can barely stand. He also looks nothing like the picture Clara sent to them. They wrestle with whether or not to send the dog back, but soon fall in love with him and decide to keep him.

She must now complete processing before moving on, and that means that she must pass through stages of denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. Eleanor, thinking that this is a bad joke, tries to walk away. But what is it about this man that has her captivated? He seems to know things about her that… no that’s ridiculous. She can’t be dead. Or could she be?

None of the participants show up and Dawn is left to wrestle with her Aunt Ethel’s alcoholic behavior on her own.

Except the legal tender in this abandoned town is time, that is time subtracted from your life span. A roast beef sandwich and a diet coke will cost her forty-five minutes. The car will be forty years. Of course, Kimberly believes Bernice to be suffering from some sort of dementia, so she agrees to humor her. Kimberly quickly learns that the true cost of time may be her life.
